Age Limit for IB Junior Intelligence Officer

  • Minimum Age: 18 years
  • Maximum Age: 27 years
  • Relaxations:
    • SC/ST: +5 years
    • OBC: +3 years
  • Departmental candidates (Central Govt. Civilian employees with 3+ years service): Up to 40 years (Not applicable for PSU/Autonomous/Statutory body employees)
  • Widows, Divorced Women & Judicially Separated Women (not remarried):
    • UR: Up to 35 years
    • OBC: Up to 38 years
    • SC/ST: Up to 40 years
    • Ex-Servicemen (ESM): As per Central Govt. rules
  • Meritorious Sportspersons: Up to +5 years (with valid certificate as per DoP&AR guidelines)

Brief about IB Junior Intelligence Officer selection process

PwBD Candidates

The post of JIO-II/Tech is not suitable for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD). Such candidates should not apply.

Vacancies

The number of vacancies is provisional and may change.

Eligibility Cut-off Date

Age, qualification, and category will be considered as on the closing date (14.09.2025, 11:59 PM). Candidates must possess the required Diploma/Degree and have their final results declared before this date.

Reservation

Vacancies for OBC, SC, ST, EWS, and ESM are as per Government rules/roster, including carried-forward vacancies (if any). If no suitable ESM is available, the reserved vacancies will be filled by non-ESM candidates of the same category.

Ex-Servicemen Already Employed

ESM who are already employed in Central Govt. Group ‘C’ posts after availing reservation benefits are not eligible for fee concession or ESM reservation again. However, they can still claim age relaxation.

Serving Defence Personnel

Those due for discharge must provide a certificate (Appendix-4). All ESM must also submit an undertaking when asked (Appendix-5).

Final Merit List

Selection will be based on combined performance in Tier-I, Tier-II, and Tier-III exams. A waiting list will also be prepared, as per DoP&T rules, for future vacancies.

Right to Rectify

While due care has been taken to follow Govt. instructions, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) reserves the right to correct any errors/omissions later.

Service Liability

This post comes with All India Transfer liability. Candidates must be willing to work anywhere in India.

Scheme of Examination

  • Tier-I:Online Objective Exam
    • Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
    • Total Questions: 100
    • Syllabus:
    • General Mental Ability: 25%
    • Subjects related to essential qualifications: 75%
    • Marks: 100
    • Duration: 2 Hours
    • Negative Marking: 0.25 mark deducted for each wrong answer
  • Tier-II: Skill Test
    • Nature: Practical/technical, as per job profile
    • Marks: 30
  • Tier-III: Interview/Personality Test
    • Marks: 20

City of Examination

  • While filling the application form, candidates must choose 5 cities (in order of preference) for the Tier-I Online Exam from the given list.
  • The final allotment of the exam city will be decided by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and cannot be changed later.
  • (List of exam cities to be provided in the official notification — candidates should read the list vertically and select their preferences accordingly.

Important Notes: Examination City

  • Candidates must carefully select their preferred exam cities while filling the online application form.
  • Once selected, the exam city cannot be changed under any circumstances.
  • If a city has too many or too few candidates, applicants may be shifted to another city.
  • Candidates may be allotted to any one of the five cities chosen by them for the Tier-I exam.
  • The Intelligence Bureau (IB) reserves the right to cancel, add, or change exam centres/cities and allot candidates to other centres based on administrative needs.
  • Tier-I may be held in multiple shifts and centres if the number of candidates is large.
  • The date, time, and venue for Tier-II & Tier-III (Interview) will be shared with successful candidates through their registered email ID.
  • Tier-II and Tier-III may not be conducted in all cities. The department may conduct them in selected centres by merging nearby cities.

Selection of Candidates for IB Junior Intelligence Officer

Tier-I Exam
  • Candidates must appear for Tier-I at one of the centres allotted from their chosen five cities.
  • Negative marking: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • No marks for unattempted questions.
  • Questions marked as “Mark for Review” will not be evaluated.
  • Cut-off Marks (out of 100) for Tier-I:
    • UR: 35
    • OBC: 34
    • SC/ST: 33
    • EWS: 35
    • (Ex-servicemen will be considered in their respective category: UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS)
Shortlisting for Tier-II & Tier-III:
  • Candidates will be shortlisted at 5 times the number of vacancies (subject to meeting minimum cut-off).
  • Shortlisting will be based on performance & normalization of Tier-I marks.
  • Variation in Cut-off:Actual cut-off may go higher depending on performance and number of vacancies.
  • The ratio of 5 times the vacancies may also reduce accordingly.
Final Merit List
  • Prepared on the combined performance in Tier-I, Tier-II, and Tier-III.
  • A waiting list will also be maintained for future replacements (as per DoP&T rules dated 13.06.2000).
Verification & Medical Exam
  • Final selection is subject to Character & Antecedent verification and a medical examination.
Nature of Appointment
  • Initial appointment will be temporary. Permanent appointment will depend on rules in force at that time.
Exam Instructions

Candidates must strictly follow the instructions in the admit card/call letter (for entry/exit, conduct inside venue, frisking, etc.). Violation may lead to cancellation of candidature.

Resolution of Tie Cases

If two or more candidates get the same total marks in Tier-I, Tier-II, and Tier-III, the tie will be resolved using the following order of preference, one by one, until the tie is broken:

  • Higher marks in Tier-I
  • If still tied, higher marks in Tier-II
  • If still tied, higher marks in Tier-III
  • If still tied, older candidate (by date of birth) will be placed higher
  • If still tied, names will be arranged in alphabetical order (by first name)

Instructions for Online Application for IB Junior Intelligence Officer Exam

Important Dates
  • Opening Date for Online Registration: 23.08.2025.
  • Closing Date for Submission of Application & Online Fee Payment: 14.09.2025 (till 11:59 PM).
  • Last Date for Offline Fee Payment through SBI Challan: 16.09.2025 (during banking hours).

Note: The e-challan generated after submitting the online application will remain valid for 4 days. However, payment must be made before 16.09.2025.

How to Apply
  • Candidates must apply online only through:
  • Applications through any other mode will not be accepted.
  • Registrations done before 23.08.2025 or after 14.09.2025 will not be accepted.
  • Applications with incorrect or false information in any column may be rejected.
  • Candidates are advised to apply well in advance. The portal usually faces heavy traffic close to the last date, and the deadline will not be extended under any circumstances.
  • Email & Mobile Number: Candidates must have a valid personal email ID and mobile number. These must remain active during the entire recruitment process.
  • All important communication (Application Number, Password, Alerts, etc.) will be sent to the registered email ID.
  • Ensure that emails are not redirected to spam/junk folders. Keep your Application Sequence Number safe. If you lose your email or mobile number, you cannot recover it.
  • Accuracy of Information
    • Fill in details carefully and correctly.
    • You can edit details before submitting Step-I and Step-II.
    • Once the application is submitted, it cannot be edited.
  • Step-by-Step Process
    • Step-I: Registration
      • Register with your personal and contact details.
      • Login ID and password will be sent to your registered email ID.
    • Step-II: Application Form
      • Re-login using the given Login ID and Password.
      • Select your category.
      • Fill in personal details, qualification details.
      • Upload photo & signature.
    • Pay the Examination Fee (if applicable) and Recruitment Processing Charges (mandatory for all candidates) through:
      • Net Banking / Debit Card / Credit Card / UPI / SBI EPAY LITE / SBI Challan.
    • Important: Once submitted, the application cannot be withdrawn.
    • Fee once paid is non-refundable and cannot be adjusted for future recruitment/selection.

Candidates facing technical issues while filling the online application can:

  • Raise their query using the Helpdesk Tab available on the application portal (after login), OR
  • Contact the Helpdesk at Phone No: 022-61087525 (available Monday to Saturday, between 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM).
  • Admit Card / Communication: Candidates must have a valid email ID and provide it during registration.
  • All important communication, including Admit Cards/Call Letters for Tier-I, Tier-II & Tier-III exams, will be sent only to the registered email ID.
  • Examination Fee
    • The fee has two parts:
      • Examination Fee: ₹100
      • Recruitment Processing Charges: ₹550

  • Notes:
    • SC/ST, female candidates, and eligible ESM are exempted from the ₹100 Exam Fee, but must still pay ₹550 Processing Charges.
    • Ex-servicemen already working in Group ‘C’ Central Govt. jobs after availing reservation must also pay the Exam Fee of ₹100 in addition to Processing Charges.
  • Any banking charges during payment will be borne by the candidate.

Mode of Payment (Online/Offline)

  • The application form is linked with the payment gateway. Follow the instructions to complete the payment.
  • Payment can be made via
    • SBI EPAY LITE using Debit Card (RuPay/Visa/MasterCard/Maestro)
    • Credit Card
    • Internet Banking
    • UPI
    • SBI Challan (offline)
  • After submitting payment online, wait for confirmation from the server. Do not press Back/Refresh, as this may cause double charges.
  • For security, close the browser window once the payment is completed.
  • After payment, candidates can print the application form with fee details.
  • Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
  • Online payment can be made only till the last date of online application submission.
  • If challan is generated on the last day of application, payment can still be made at the bank till 16.09.2025 (during banking hours only)

Important Advisory for Candidates applying for IB Junior Intelligence Officer

  • Beware of Fraudulent Elements: It has come to notice that some unscrupulous persons are fraudulently inviting applications for various posts in the Intelligence Bureau. Such elements are also misleading aspirants by:
  • Offering false assistance during examinations.
  • Issuing fake appointment letters. Candidates are strictly advised not to fall prey to such fraudulent activities.
  • Fake Assurances on Social Media: Some unknown individuals, claiming to be Ex-IB officers, are giving false assurances of helping candidates clear the examination. Such claims are false, baseless, and misleading.
  • The Intelligence Bureau does not share any input about examination content with any person.
  • Confidentiality of Recruitment Progress: Candidates must not disclose any updates about their progression to the next stages of recruitment or final selection on:
